Water Filtration: The Importance of Clean Water

Great filters to purify your drinking waterWater is a basic chemical compound but no one can argue about its importance. Plants, animals, and humans would surely perish without it. Just the fact that the human body is composed of 70% water is already a testament to how important it is. However, unfiltered water may contain chlorine, parasites, fluoride, dioxins, and other contaminants that are harmful to your health.

Water treatment is a good way to avoid such dangers.

What is water treatment?

Water treatment is the process of cleaning water until it reaches an acceptable level based on what it will be used for. If it is for drinking, it is processed until it is potable. Potable water is free from disease carrying microorganisms and hazardous chemicals. Other reasons for treating water include industrial water supply, irrigation, and recreation. Many companies also install commercial water treatment systems in their facilities.

The Importance of Water Treatment

Water from rivers, lakes, and other bodies of water are not as clean as you might think even if they are directly from nature. The common impurities of water are hydrogen sulphide, oxygen, ammonia, clay, mud, sodium and calcium carbonates, microscopic plants, and industrial wastes. Water pollution can do damage on a larger scale when a large body of water gets contaminated by industrial wastes.

Being exposed to contaminated water can lead to different types of diseases, such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery, roundworm infestation, and jaundice. It can also cause serious skin infections and intestinal disorders. It is important to note that ingestion of contaminated water is not the only way to get infected with such diseases.

Some might argue that they have been drinking unfiltered water for years and yet remain healthy. What you need to know is that some waterborne diseases take time to propagate and show visible signs and symptoms, and it might be too late by then.

There are many water filtration methods used to remove contaminants, but the three main methods are UV water purification, reverse osmosis, and distillation. These residential and commercial water treatment systems ensure that the water everyone uses is safe and clean.
